DIY Wedding Favors – Baby Cakes

This is a fun DIY wedding project that will impress even your craftsy girlfriends. These pretty “baby cakes” or “cake bites” are a wonderful addition to a wedding dessert buffet or you could package them as an elegant and edible DIY favor. I found this easy-to-follow tutorial at cakejournal.com, an online journal of the very talented baker and designer Louise, who is from Denmark. The site is full of fun ideas, a confection gallery and lots of wedding inspiration, and Louise has a unique and engaging way of encouraging beginners to jump right in! Thanks, Louise:)

Wedding Cupcake Favors

I love cupcakes. Who doesn’t? This is a great article about wedding cupcake favors, for which we have some really cute cupcake favor boxes!

You don’t always have to have a cake at a wedding. Now a days, brides are using decorative cupcakes in place of a cake. They are cost effective, loved by all, there is no cake cutting, and easy to disperse. The best part about cupcakes is the decorating. There are so many ways one cupcake can be created. Besides the beauty and the uniqueness of a cupcake, you have plates and cake stands that can also add to the elegance of how the cupcakes are displayed. For more cupcake ideas visit Martha Stewart Weddings. They have an array of ideas and 31 pictures to inspire your cupcake desires.

New Spring 2009 Wedding Favors

Sea Glass Luminary Favor

Our new line of spring wedding favors is up and ready to ship! My personal favorite this year are the Sea Glass Luminaries with beaded handles – they are sure to bring the beauty of the beach to your tables.

You don’t have to be having a beach-themed wedding to add these special luminary favors to your event. These tealight favors are so pretty and can be used for special events, showers, parties, etc. I would love to have them on the table at a dinner party for a soothing effect.

There are also quite a few favors this spring with cherry blossoms, all of which are completely gorgeous AND practical! I am not one to push useless favors, as they really should be a way to say thank you to your guests for sharing your event and celebrating your day, whatever it may be. I love these Cherry Blossom Glass Coaster Favors and the Cherry Blossoms Vellum Wine Glass Shades. With one of those battery operated tealights, they would make a beautiful addition to your tables, nighttime or day.

And of course we love our eco-friendly favors, from reusable shopping bags, to Herbs in a Box, to bamboo coasters and soaps with recycled paper labels. The
Herbs in a Box is one of our bestsellers, a completely recycled, reusable and practical gift for guests. It comes with a reusable, recycled kraft box, a peat pot and peat pellet and seeds, instructions for planting and raffia ribbon, all completely compostable.

Double Truffle!

From marthastewart.com:

Give your guests a sweet send-off. Nestle homemade truffles decorated with sprinkles in little wooden boxes. Ours are lined with glassine — trimmed with scallop scissors — then wrapped in narrow ribbon and sealed with pumpkin stickers. Forming truffles is easiest with a 1-inch ice cream scoop; two teaspoons will also work.

Ingredients

Makes about 4 dozen

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1 pound semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup orange and black sprinkles, for decorating
  • 1/2 cup orange and black sanding sugar, for decorating

Directions

  1. Bring cream, butter, and corn syrup to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat. Add chocolate, and gently swirl pan to cover chocolate with cream.
  2. Slowly whisk until smooth. Transfer to a large bowl. Cover, and refrigerate. Stir mixture every 15 minutes. After 45 minutes, mixture will thicken quickly, so stir every 3 to 5 minutes until set but still pliable, 10 to 20 minutes more (total chilling time is 55 to 65 minutes.)
  3. Refrigerate until firm but not hard, about 10 minutes. Remove from refrigerator, and roll balls in palms to smooth. Refrigerate, in an airtight container, layered between pieces of parchment or waxed paper, until ready to decorate.
  4. Remove balls from refrigerator. Place sprinkles and sanding sugar in separate small bowls. Dip balls into sprinkles or sanding sugar to coat, pressing sprinkles to adhere. Truffles can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 week

We have several options for packaging the truffles. We are working the wraparound label category, but if you see any label you like, you can always order it and just email us and let us know you would like it as a wraparound label. 18 wraparound labels in a set. All labels, tags and place cards are sold in sets for $11.99.

Mini-Me Eco-Friendly Wedding Favors

Herbs in a Box wedding favor

After spending some time perfecting our Herbs in a Box Wedding Favor, we decided to add a more simple option for those looking for green favors with a smaller price tag. These Herbs in a Box® Junior Favors are really cute little offerings to guests and we have a variety of herbs to choose from. We are now using peat pellets with all the herbs favors as they cut down on assembly time and are much more feasible as a favor that will travel with guests.

We do not sell the labels with these favors, however, as customers are welcome to purchase any label or tag they want. The boxes are
3″W x 3″L x 2″H and come with your color choice of raffia (wraphia) ribbon. Both our 2.5″ round labels
or the 2″ tags would work and we are in the process of expanding our wraparound label selection which would also work. If there is a design you like but do not see an option in the format you are looking for, please feel free to email us or call.
*These favors are designed with 100% recycled material. Kraft boxes and raffia ribbon are 100% recycled. Peat pellets and peat pots are 100% earth-friendly biodegradable options for planting. Seeds a packed in glassine paper bags which are 100% Biodegradable and 100% Recyclable. All tags are printed on 100% recycled material.
