DIY…Wedding Program Fans!

I love this idea from Intimate Weddings Blog – wedding program fans with games on the back to keep your guests busy as they wait for the ceremony to begin!

On the front, you can include basics like names, ceremony details, and graphics to match your wedding theme. On the back, use wedding related games like a Mad Lib, a fill-in-the-blank, and a word search.

DIY…Time in a Bottle

Here’s a great way to display vintage family photos. Follow these few easy steps from Yankee Magazine.

You’ll need: glass bottle or jar glass cleaner photocopy of a photograph or print scissors two wooden skewers.

  1. Choose an attractive glass bottle or jar, whether new or antique (the larger the neck or the mouth the better). Clean it and dry it thoroughly. (Polident denture solution works great for getting old glassware clean.)
  2. Make a color or black-and-white photocopy of your picture on regular copier paper. The copy should be small enough (in length and width) to fit unrolled inside the glass container. Trim excess paper if necessary.
  3. Wrap the photocopy, blank side showing, around one of the wooden skewers and roll it into a tight cylinder.
  4. Slide the photocopy cylinder off the skewer and slip it, right side up, through the bottle’s neck (or the jar’s mouth).
  5. Insert both skewers down through the neck (or mouth).
  6. Working from the blank side (to avoid damaging the print), use the skewers to unroll the cylinder until it’s flat inside the bottle or jar. Pressing toward the front of the container from the back of the photocopy works best.
  7. Leave the top of your bottle or jar open if you like, or finish with a cork or clean metal cap.

Daffodils

Probably nothing in the gardening world is more foolproof and more rewarding than “naturalizing” daffodils. Because unlike most other garden flowers, these fantastic plants are super-easy to plant in fall, they don’t care about soil, as long as it’s well-drained, and they’ll bloom beautifully for you with absolutely no work every spring after you plant them. Best of all, daffodils increase over the years, each bulb developing into a blooming clump. All you have to do is pick the spots. The one thing to remember is that you won’t be able to mow that area until the tops die down. Everything else takes care of itself. In a new or established wildflower meadow, the wildflower plants grow up around the daffodils hiding the fading foliage, so there’s no work to do. And if you’re planting wildflower seed, what could be easier that to pop in the bulbs when you have the ground already turned?

M&M Candy Gifts and Favors

My father and I had a game while I was growing up. Okay, maybe it was more when I was over the age of 13 and too old for real games with Dad. Being a typical teenager, I liked the idea of having fun with him without actually admitting it. It was always m&ms, and I have no idea how it even started. We would take a package and hide them and one of us would give the other a clue somehow, by leaving a note somewhere. It was always something cryptic, which my dad was great at, something like, “Soup’s on” or something a little more obscure. This game seemed to end when I was living in my own apartment and Dad insisted the m&m’s were hidden somewhere in the apartment. I won’t say where they were hidden, but that was the end of the m&m game.

I still love m&m’s and I have a special place in my heart thanks to Dad and our fun together. There are so many things you can do with m&m’s nowadays, and I especially love the new wedding colors! We have so many favor packaging ideas these m&m’s would go wonderfully with them. We also have some classic wedding labels that would coordinate with the new colors.

Can’t Stop a Creative Friend from Meddling in the Process

A friend’s baby shower is actually the reason I decided to start this business in the first place. Since then, silver favor boxes with wraparound label every time a friend is having an event, I feel compelled to offer to help with the favors or any other creative print projects I can get my hands on. I really want to help them out but I also love every opportunity to flex my creative muscles.
I most recently worked on some favors for my friend Beth’s wedding in Vermont. She married a German man and wanted to use [tag]German chocolates[/tag] for the favors with tags on them somehow. We decided to use some petite silver boxes I had in stock and wraparound labels for a very simple yet classy look that complemented the table decor very well. The final decision on these favors were actually quite last-minute and my fellow usher and I spent an evening two days before the wedding putting these together. It gave me some perspective on how long it would actually take someone to put together the favors they might purchase from my site as well as the ease and simplicity of the components. While the task at hand was fun because we were chatting and thinking about our friend’s upcoming nuptials, I have to say the German chocolate helped us along quite a bit!
